Do we call the Savior Jesus or Yeshua?
I want to say up front that I think our Savior's name is Jesus, and this article will be a defense of that. I also want to make it known that I don't make it a "salvation issue" whether Jesus is called by the correct name or not, just so long as he is defined as the Savior of the Scriptures. However, there are those involved in a cult called, "The Sacred Name Movement" that are trying to erase the name of Jesus and replace it with Yeshua. They then go even further to make it a salvation issue.
I don't make it a salvation issue because you can have the right name and still even then be following "another Jesus" as the Bible clearly states that this is possible. The Bible verse 2 Corinthians 11:4 says, "For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit which ye have not received, or another gospel which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him". The verse is interpreted to mean that people should be wary of teachings that present a different Jesus, spirit, or gospel.
The biggest argument that is used by those who attack the name of Jesus is that the letter J was only invented some four hundred years ago. While this may be true they overlook the fact that the J sound itself was already around long before then, and only a letter "I" was used to signify it. Thus, it was only the written letter that was invented, not the sound itself.
Those who shun those who want to use the name of Jesus strangely continue to use the letter J for absolutely everything else in the Bible. Words like "Jerusalem", and names like "Joseph" and "James". Why don't they demand that we use the Hebrew for all these other words? Their attack is quite selective.

William Tyndale was the scholar who first translated the Scriptures from Greek into English. The Roman Catholic church burned him at the stake for making the Scriptures available in English to the people for the first time. Truly this man was a hero. I highly encourage you to watch his life story available free on line called, "God's Outlaw." Tyndale's translation shows all J words written with a letter I. Back then the letter I had two jobs. It could either be a vowel or a consonant.
Dolly Webber goes on to explain the shocking Hebrew meanings behind the name Yeshua. "Rabbi" Itzhak Shapira says The Hebrew word nāḥāsh (נחשׁ) means "snake" and is the equivalent to the word "Messiah" using Gematria (Jewish numerology). He goes on to say that in Psalm 146 the Lord will loosen a prisoner, who he thinks is the Messiah, that resembles a pig. He claims that the Hebrew meaning of the word "pig" means to "come back". Thus in his mind, when Jesus comes back he will unmask himself to the Jewish people after once being perceived as a pig to a pure and clean Messiah. This whole line of reasoning that reduces Jesus to a pig is not only insulting, but blasphemous.
Yeshua is also Metatron within Kabbalistic Judaism. Metatron is Kabbalah's Messiah figure. While I don't make it a salvation issue to use the correct name, using this false name actually opens people up to deception in the future. So it's wise once you learn the truth, to cease using this false name. Also, so that you don't lead others astray.
