A friend of mine recently showed me a video tour of her Messianic Church store. I was shocked to see about 50% of the merchandise having the so called "Star of David". It was on scarves, Menorah's, jewelry, and Bible covers even. I have to wonder, why the fascination with this symbol, and does the Bible say David ever even have a star? Here is what I found out when investigating the star symbol in the Bible. Much to my dismay, I saw that the Scriptures ONLY associate this symbol to ancient Israel's idolatry, namely to Moloch! Here are the passages below:
You also took up the tabernacle of Moloch, And the star of your god Remphan, Images which you made to worship; And I will carry you away beyond Babylon.’ Acts 7:43
Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves. Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, whose name is The God of hosts. Amos 5:25-27
Upon further research I saw that David's son Solomon had gotten involved in idolatry.
For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not [a]loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom, the abomination of the Ammonites. Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as did his father David. Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the hill that is east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the people of Ammon. 8 And he did likewise for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods. 1 Kings 11:4-8
There was absolutely no mention in the Bible that David had a star as a symbol. This symbol is more honestly called the Star of Solomon by some. I find this to be more Scripturally accurate. Solomon was worshipping Moloch and the star symbol is associated with Moloch as the verses above demonstrate.
Here is a video which features the use of this star in Archeology in the Middle East
People that want to defend their use of this star as a Messianic symbol insist it's the star of the Jews because it's on their flag. It's not just a star of the Jews, other religions have historically and archeologically adhered to this star symbol.
It is the Symbol of Muruga. He is formed both by Shiva and Shakthi. It is called Shatgona in Hinduism
We find this star in Freemasonry
Freemason's Grand Lodge of Ireland
The virulent anti-Semite, Helen Blavatsky's "mystic" brooch
Occultist Adolf Hitler is said to have kept her "works" on his bedside table
We find this star in Occultism
As Christians, even Messianic Christians, shouldn't we avoid the use of this symbol since the Bible never once instructs us to use it? Especially when the Bible comes out against this symbol saying it represents Moloch?
The Occultists and other religions use it as a talisman to 'ward off evil spirits'. We as Christians know the only way to ward off evil spirits is to rebuke them with the name of Jesus!
I understand the enthusiasm of Messianic Christians, but can't we use the symbol of a branch or a Menorah instead if we must use a symbol at all, to represent Israel? Aren't we leading them astray by reinforcing this symbol? The Jewish representative below from the Chabad organization over in Israel admits that there is NO PROOF that the star ever was used or belonged to David at all. This is a man who is for it's use, but at least he is being totally honest about it. It does an injustice to David himself to misrepresent him. I challenge all my Messianic friends to at the very least quit calling it the Star of David. It would be more accurately called the Star of Solomon or a Hexagram.
